Parenting classes?

I just had a thought, why don’t we make every parent take a a few classes on how to be a good and loving parent, and teach you some tricks to make life easier on you.

Only problem is rounding up people who get pregnant, it’d be kinda hard to track em down for parenting classes.

I know this wouldn’t work out in real life, but its a neat thought, wouldn’t you say?
Hehe, yea Sarah, but that is what i said, this wouldn’t work out in real life.

Just a fun thought.

I think you are either going to be a good parent or you’re not. You either love your kid and you want the best life for them or you don’t. Think about it, even in school when you were forced to go, there were still those people that managed to screw it up. You can’t make people give a s**t.

I think it is a good idea and is idealistic. While were at it, people should have to have a permit to have children. Be forced to be married and have a certain income level and or education in order to ensure that parents can provide for the children.

Its only when one or both parents are discovered to be inept by child-welfare organisations that parenting classes comes in to play. These abysmally inept , incompetent parents are made to take these courses by the courts.

Well you could teach the basics in senior high school.

  4. Respectful Says:

Even if there were classes, they would go, but would they actually follow the advice? No, once they leave class they would do what they want.

Parenting advice should be readily available for those who seek help. I don’t think you could teach someone how to be loving - that either comes naturally or it doesn’t - but there should be accessible information within the community on practical skills. This has increased recently through TV shows, and there are psychologists who specialise in parenting issues. But, like you say, it would be very difficult to make people take notice of this information if they don’t want to.

They do this in my school district. The guidance office schedules all the pregnant students and any known fathers in a "life skills" class, where they learn about baby care, nutrition and discipline. I think they cover some basic money management and independent living stuff too.

Personally, I think it would be better if ALL the kids had to take the class in order to graduate. Maybe they won’t use the info right away, but at least they would be exposed to the information.

After all what is more relevant to real life - this class or "Ceramics 2?"

The only problem is rounding up people who get pregnant? No women are the only ones who get pregnant- you would still have to find the fathers. They need as much education as the women do.
